Boost the Immune system
The immune system defends the body especially against external aggressions. The effectiveness of this system is dependent on nutritional status and studies show that in animals with low nutritional status or suffering from malnutrition, immune defences are disrupted and they are more vulnerable to infections. The immune system also declines with age. Nutritional supplements containing vitamins, minerals and plant extracts help to enhance the effectiveness of the immune system to fight against winter infections and to relieve symptoms.
A change in season is always a difficult time for an animal’s body so be careful to choose your pet food carefully to protect their immune system and to guarantee good health.
Raw food, Vitamins and Minerals
An important place is given to raw foods that retain their vitamins intact. Cooking causes a loss of vitamins as well as necessary nutrients, enzymes and some minerals. Remember that plants should always be given freshly grated to avoid vitamin oxidation in contact with air, or in juice form for better digestibility. Note however that cooking with fresh steam preserves most of the vitamins and minerals.
Indeed, vitamins and minerals play an important role in the immune system including vitamin A, C, E, B, iron, magnesium, selenium and zinc. Studies have also shown that antioxidants (carotenoids, bioflavonoids, CQ 10, lutein, lycopene are essential for a healthy immune system.
It is important to emphasize that the essential fatty acids also help to support immune function and fats are the main source of energy for your pet’s protection. Your canine or feline friend is in need of food rich in calories when the temperature falls especially if it is often outside because its fur alone is not enough to keep out the cold. Do not hesitate to increase its fat ration if necessary and use a raw blend of organic oils rich in vitamin E.

Hepatic and intestinal hygiene
The intestine plays an important role in immunity. Rebalancing the intestinal flora with probiotics will prove wise to help your pet to resist infections from winter antibiotic therapy or inactivity. Healthy intestine filters the body and detoxifies the liver.
